Coaching Definitions

Four Levels of Competency:

Unconscious Incompentency (UI) - You do not know that you do not know.

Conscious Incompentecy (CI) - You know that you do not know.  The good news about this level is that you are already at step two because you do not know when you are at step one.

Conscious Compentency (CC) - You have learned something yet you are aware of all the steps that it takes to complete the task. It may be awkward like a child taking his first steps or riding his bike without training wheels or skiing after skiing lessons.

Unconscious Compentency (UC)  - You know how to do something so well that you do not concentrate on it which allows you to focus on others and even teaching it to others.

Fundamental Presuppositions:

People already have the resources they need or they can acquire them.

People make the best choices they can and each of us could probably do better.

Behind every behaviour is a positive intention.  We ultimately create our own reality.

If it is working, keep doing it.  If what you are doing is not working, then do something else.

If you want to understand or learn, act or do something!

There is no failure, there is only feedback.

You cannot fail to communicate.  The meaning of the communication is the response you get.

Three areas of concentration:

Goals - focusing on what you would like and how to achieve it,

Values - knowing what is important to you and living your values in achieving your goals,

Beliefs - challenging limiting beliefs by performing  tasks that provide feedback

Coaching is exploring the answers to four questions:

What would you like?

How might you get it?

How will you stay the course?

How will you know when you have it?

Primary Focus

Identify five areas that you want held as your main focus during this coaching relationship.

For each focus area, provide a simple heading and a description of the measurable results you want.

For example:

Be More Productive.

I have a system to follow up on calls and letters. I'm on time, I get all tasks accomplished, and I have realistic goals for new projects.
